Saturday 3 Hour Bike - Again

It never ceases to amaze me how a short ride is so much tougher than a long one. I don't mean to say that 3 hours of sweating away on my bike, riding the Lake Placid route while watching, what seems like the 400th time, the Rolling Stones concert on CD (Thanks God there were 4 shows) is easy. It isn't. My butt is still sore and I finished 3 hours ago! But that 20 minute brick bike ride I did yesterday felt like it went on forever. The three hours today seemed to go by pretty quickly.

I wonder if it's because, over 20 minutes, there's nothing to think about but how much time there is left. Over three hours, I have tons of time to think about all sorts of stuff. Truth be told, there was probably enough stuff to keep my therapist busy for a month!

As far as the ride goes, there's not much to report. An average wattage of 124. Average speed under 20kph. That speed scares the hell out of me. That's a 9 hour Ironman bike time. A far cry for the 7.5 hours I did in 2007, but I'll do my best to stick to these Zone 2 watt rides for as long as I can. I've just got to have faith that the coach is right and the speed will come, or the legs will be in so much better shape for the run that I'll save more time than I lost on the bike.

I've got a crazy hill run tomorrow, and then an easy week tapering as we all get ready for the 30k Around the Bay race next weekend.
